Expectations in the content writing job interview

The one guide you need for landing your job as a content writer.

What you can expect in the content writing job interview?

Well it depends on your experience in the field and your education and other qualifications and achievements

However, this is for beginners, intermediate and advanced level writers so, don’t worry about your level and experience and education and qualification just focus on things you will need in the job interview.

Here are some tips you might like to learn and improve your likelihood of hunting down any job that is related to your skillset.

Formal interview

This means that your past experiences will be brought into the light. Where did you work? What was your GD (General duty) what was assigned to you? How you coped with the challenges?

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Your relationship with your supervisors and subordinates?

About your work environments? Does your average word count? Type of work; project-based, contract-based, part-time. Full time etc.?

Freelancing, blogging, SEO, search engines, editing and formatting tools you have used? Your favorites and dislikes? Your passions and ambitions? your future plannings? Your expectations? Your personal and professional growth options? Your fears and motivations? Your inspirations? Your views about life, business, and work?

Don’t worry my friend they will not ask you that much in just one interview but be prepared they can ask you these all too. Be mentally prepared for some organizations have a lot of formalities so these were just brief descriptions. The world has yet to explore.

Tests

After a formal interview and some organizations prefers tests before the formal interview. They have various types of tests; aptitude, personality, honesty, responsibility generally behavioral and competency-based tests to asses their interviewee’s literacy, creativity, personality, competency, honesty, responsibility, and behaviors to name it few.

What to do?

Don’t get frustrated and never be frightened my friend just remember for every level there is another devil. These tests may consist of these following domain-specific tests to determine your level and expertise.

Grammar

These tests generally concerned with parts of speech the context and content specific ranging from the use of parts of speech, to correct use of tenses and narrations.

Proficiency

These tests determine how efficiently you do your task. This can be anything from brochures to web pages, from copy to creative writing, from blog to articles, case studies, research-based essay, resume, graphical representation of your or their ideas, presentation, and training scenario, teaching and acting.

Anything fit in this category might be given to you to gauge how proficient you are in doing what you claim you do. This can be in typing speed, research methodology, searching strategies, organization, stratification, management, either stress, anger, work or resources, time and space.

Handling distractions, dependency and interdependency, behavioral and psychological capabilities, Strengths and weaknesses, skills and talents, hobbies and interests. Personality and working style. Leadership, delegations, motivation and work ethics.

Competency

If you say you can write a blog, you are given a topic or topics to write. If you do it at a specific time, then you are seen as a competent individual. Who has knowledge, skill, and competence to drive the results they are going to expect a competent, social and likable personality person who loves working what he/she loves and like others their work independently without any negative impact.

Patience

Remember my friend this one skill I recommend and suggest to everyone who meets me as a writer that you may be patient enough to tolerate any inconvenience before or after the interview.

Profession

Your profession is full of imposters, they just copy and paste the great content of not famous writers and act as if they have written that.

Your creativity and originality, persistence, and consistency will give you an edge over these imposters. One of my favorite quotes is that it is better to fail in originality rather than success with copying.

Remember that with the following skills your original and authentic writer will slowly and steadily win and shine.

Creativity

As a writer you are creative by default just a few hours per day training and polishing your skills will pave your path to success top spot. Creativity is the fruit of trials and errors. In creativity, perfection doesn’t exist. It is all about making and creating better versions and nothing else. These hours pay off in the long run.

Long term business and professional success lie on the shoulders of creativity. It makes you, shapes you and mold your personality and skill sets where golden keys lies and you are the only one to pick them up and open the gates of heavens, paradise or the top of the treasures the physical and psychological ones.

Persistence

Slow and steady wins the race it is so true that I even imagine any progress in anything in life and work without persistence. Sticking till the end, standing till the last and fight back with your personal and professional demons are the qualitative descriptions of persistence.

No matter if you are skilled or beginner in writing if you are persistent enough to stick to your game plan and trying again and again. I am 120% sure that you are gonna make it whatever you have dreamt or visualized for. No matter how proficient, competent, patient, and creative you are if you are not persistent everything will be lost from your hand.

Consistency

Make a game plan and stick to it be consistent in your approach if you are expert than provide everything on expert level. We live in the fast-paced society where consistency is valued more in online platforms than anything else across the spectrum.

Be well prepared

Well prepared people win every battle 50 % because nature rewards the prepared mind. Before reading this post you were in a sense of uncertainty that what you can and can not expect in the job interview as a content writer. After reading this post you are 80% to 90% sure about everything you can expect in the interview so, be prepared.

Do your homework and believe me no one can ignore you if you are well prepared, competent, and capable only salary packages will be discussed in another post in detail. You can also read this post that how to win your dream job in a simple yet diplomatic manner.

Count everything

it sounds quite weird but remember my friend that you will not regret it. You should have clearcut stats of everything you have ever written, researches, blogs, websites, companies, how many articles, researches, blogs, webpages, copy pages, media campaigns, marketing, advertising any other platform, any type of content, creative, research-based, resumes, etc. Search your every possible state and when they ask you about it you can mention it or show them online.

Length

One of the must-have queries of employers and HR professionals in your daily word count. so at least research your average word count and tell them honestly.

Depth

The beginner, advanced and expert level depth is sometimes required from you. They can give you a task and say to you that write 300 to 500 words for beginners, expert-level audiences so are you prepared for the task?

Stamina

What is your attention span? ten minutes thirty or more than an hour. The moment you feel exhausted is your stamina observe yourself carefully.

Don’t shy away

Unlike other jobs, there is nothing to shy away from everything you know about content and writing tell them. Don’t feel stressed, and never be anxious once you realize this simple fact that there are unlimited possibilities out there this is not the only one you will feel more freedom in your responses.

Believe me, there are more than enough national and international opportunities that you will be amazed by the abundance of it.

Salary package

It depends on a lot of things; your working hours, experience, market value, your expectations, needs, and requirements, employing company revenue, their offering and most importantly the market competitiveness.

In my understanding, most companies pay more to keep excellent writers, while some just frustrate their employees because they don’t know the real value of writing.

I always say to my colleagues and students who want to start writing that, when you pay lower rates to your writers it affects quality because of 500 words blog for 50$ and 500$ matter a lot.

Nature of work for writers
