Pilgrims Perform Stoning of Jamarat and Eid Sacrifice Amid AI-Assisted Hajj Operations
Mina, Saudi Arabia – June 7, 2025
Close to two million Muslim pilgrims converged in Mina on Friday morning to perform the symbolic stoning of the devil (Jamarat Al-Aqaba), marking the first day of Eid al-Adha and a central rite of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
Following the stoning ritual, pilgrims proceeded to conduct the ritual animal sacrifice, which commemorates the willingness of Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son in obedience to God — a foundational story shared by all Abrahamic faiths.
Saudi officials confirmed that the movement of pilgrims from Mount Arafat to Mina on Thursday had proceeded smoothly, aided by advanced artificial intelligence systems designed to manage logistics, crowd flow, and safety in real time.
Key Statistics:
- Total pilgrims (1446 AH / 2025 CE): 1,673,230
- From abroad: 1,506,576
- Domestic pilgrims (Saudis & residents): 166,654
Pilgrims will remain in Mina over the three Tashreeq days (Saturday to Monday), continuing the symbolic stoning ritual at the three Jamarat pillars — a practice that reaffirms spiritual discipline and rejection of evil.
Hajj: The Fifth Pillar of Islam
The Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a once-in-a-lifetime obligation for all Muslims who are physically and financially able. The rites span six days and trace the steps of Prophet Abraham, Hagar, and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Beyond its spiritual meaning, Hajj represents global Muslim unity, as pilgrims from over 200 countries gather in a single place for a shared act of worship.
Last year, more than 1.8 million participated in the pilgrimage. This year’s turnout remains high despite ongoing regional conflicts and travel uncertainties.
Conclusion:
This year’s Hajj proceeds with heightened logistical efficiency and spiritual fervor. The rituals of stoning, sacrifice, and prayer in Mina mark not only the start of Eid al-Adha but also the culmination of a journey of faith, unity, and submission to divine will.
